| @It is difficult to define a healthy mind, because the mind itself
has not been elucidated completely. I propose these indexes as below
, these are conditions and aims, that must be fulfilled or should
be pursued, for keeping mental health.
1.@Adapting to one's environment positively
- It is important not to adjust oneself to one's environment,
but to try to change one'senvironment to a better one, while being
in harmony with it. The latter is called "positive adaptation".
2.@Controling one's behaviour by one's will
- Ego must have enough power to cotrol one's behaviour. Ego is
the center of conscious behaviour, which is in the center of consciousness.
(Fig.2)
- The healthy part of the mind can control one's actions and govern
the unhealthy part of the mind.
- One can stop the actions, that hurt others and oneself.
Fig.2 The Structure of the Mind

3.@Aiming to live a life that is in accordance with one's character
4.@Aiming to be independent of others
- Being independent in daily life, economically and mentally
- Mental independence means that one can think, judge and act
by oneself and can be responsible for the results. It may be defined
that one can live not being dependent on others, but being dependent
on oneself mentally.
5.@Trying to integrate one's mind
- Consciousness should be in harmony with the unconscious.
- Reducing the elements of the mind, that are repressed or dissociated
from the main personality.
- All of the elements of the mind should be integreted, centering
around the axis connecting Ego with Self, and the mind should
function as a united one.@Self is the core of one's personality,
which is in the deep parts of the unconscious and in the center
of the mind. (Fig.2)
6.@The
mind as a whole should be growing up.
- The mind should be brought up by confrontation with the outside
ordeals and the conflicts in the mind.
- The nutrition for mental growth should be given, such as love,
delight, satisfaction, being moved emotionally, laughter, contact
with other's warmth and so on.
